GOSHO
are the writings of the Daishonin, our founder. In Nichiren Shoshu, the Gosho writings are upheld as exemplary instructions - a mirror of faith - by which to devote ourselves to faith, practice, and study. We can gain a correct understanding of these writings only by following the directions of our High Priest, who has received the transmission of the essential principles of true Buddhism.
ATTENDING
OKO CEREMONY
on the second Sunday of every month. In the Oko Ceremony, after the Kenzen offering, the recitation of the sutra, and the chanting of Daimoku, the priest presents a sermon, based on the Gosho. The Oko lecture is profoundly significant. Therefore, it is essential for us to attend this sermon together with our families each month without fail and offer our sincerest gratitude to the Three Treasures.

A vessel can have four faults. The first is overturning, which means that it turns
upside down, or it is subverted, or a lid is placed on it [rendering it useless]. The
second fault is leaking, which means that water leaks through. The third is
contaminated contents. While the water itself may be pure, if excrement is deposited
in it, the water in that vessel cannot be used. The fourth fault is mixing. If rice is
combined with excrement, rocks, sand, or dirt, it is not fit for consumption by
humans. The vessel represents our bodies and minds. Our minds are like vessels. Our
mouths and ears are also vessels. (Gosho, p. 1447)
秋元御書
器有四失。一云覆,乃倒置也。又為翻,又為覆蓋也。二云漏,乃漏水
也。三云污,乃穢也。水雖淨,若糞入器,不用其水。四為雜也。飯中
若雜或糞,或石,或沙,或土等,則人不食。器表我等之身心。我等之
心如器,口亦器,耳亦器也。 (御書 一四四七頁)
秋元御書
器(うつわ)に四つの失(とが)あり。一には覆(ふく)と申してうつぶける
なり。又はくつがへす、又は蓋(ふた)をおほふなり。二には漏(ろ)と申し
て水もるなり。三には汙(う)と申してけがれたるなり。水浄(きよ)けれど
も糞の入りたる器の水をば用ふる事なし。四には雑(ぞう)なり。飯に或は糞
、或は石、或は沙(すな)、或は土なんどを雑(まじ)へぬれば人食(く)ら
ふことなし。器は我等が身心を表はす。我等が心は器の如し。口も器、耳も器
